A Norton & Wilfrid Christmas
December 22, 2017
Apparently Norton has a little bit too much faith in what he watches on television, and at least this time it it seems he might have actually learned something in the end.
This year’s Christmas themed strip is an obvious ode to “A Charlie Brown Christmas”. The idea for it came when I considered what would really happen to a Charlie Brown style skimpy-looking Christmas tree when fully decorated with lights. In “A Charlie Brown Christmas” the tiny malnourished tree chosen by Charlie Brown is magically transformed into a lushly decorated specimen after Linus and the other Peanuts characters add their touch of love. In contrast Norton’s touch of love to his tree does not wind up as impressive. I added a light blue blanket around the base of Norton’s tree as an ode to Linus’ blanket that he wrapped around the base of Charlie Brown’s tree.
In the original draft of the strip I had the lights piled up around the base of the tree in an unkempt fashion. I changed it in the final version to the lights being actually wrapped around the tree trunk because I figured Norton would be the type to put at least some degree of effort into trying to spruce up the little spruce.
